SENATE ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
SENATE, No. 4729
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: OCTOBER 8, 2026
The Senate Environment and Energy Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 4729.
This bill amends current law to modify the geographic restrictions for solar energy projects participating in the State’s community solar program.
This bill provides that solar projects sited on landfills, brownfields, contaminated sites, and mining sites that include associated, contiguous, and related, non-contiguous tracts of land may participate in the community solar program. The bill also prohibits the Board of Public Utilities from imposing any limitations on these kinds of projects, based on the amount of associated, contiguous, or related, non-contiguous land that they include.
