STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 4307

with Senate Floor Amendments

      These floor amendments clarify that the Governor is respectfully requested to issue a proclamation recognizing December 18 of each year as “New Jersey History Day.” These floor amendments also clarify that school districts may annually observe “New Jersey History Day” by commemorating the State’s history through appropriate instructional activities aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Social Studies.  These floor amendments remove the requirement for the Department of Education to provide guidelines and information to school districts for use in planning the activities in observance of “New Jersey History Day.”
