      The Senate Law and Public Safety Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 1291.

      As reported by the committee, this bill expands “Daniel’s Law” to prohibit the disclosure of personal identifying information of a victim support advocate and victim support care provider.

     Under current law, Daniel’s Law protects the personal identifying information of active, formerly active, or retired judicial officers, law enforcement officers, child protective investigators in the Division of Child Protection and Permanency and prosecutors, as well as the personal information of immediate family members who reside in the same household as those individuals.  Public and private parties are prohibited from publishing the home address and telephone number of a person covered by Daniel’s Law.

     This bill expands Daniel’s Law to prohibit the disclosure of personal identifying information of victim support advocates and victim support care providers.  A “victim support advocate” is defined as a victim witness coordinator or a victim witness advocate in the State Office of Victim-Witness Advocacy in the Division of Criminal Justice in the Department of Law and Public Safety or in a county prosecutor’s office.  A “victim support care provider” is defined as a program coordinator or forensic sexual assault nurse examiner appointed or designated to serve in the Statewide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, or a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team.

      This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 2026-2027 session pending technical review.  As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
