SENATE HIGHER EDUCATION COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
SENATE, No. 229
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: MARCH 16, 2026
The Senate Higher Education Committee reports favorably Senate Bill No. 229.
This bill requires institutions of higher education to collect and report certain employment data for recent graduates.
Under the bill, institutions of higher education are required to include within the information provided pursuant to the “New Jersey College Student and Parent Consumer Information Act,” P.L.2009, c.197, certain employment data for recent graduates. Specifically, the bill requires institutions of higher education to provide information on the employment outcomes and earnings data available through the New Jersey Statewide Data System for the graduates of the three most recent academic years for which data is available.
Current law requires the Secretary of Higher Education to annually compile the student consumer information reports submitted by institutions of higher education into a comparative profile of all four-year public institutions of higher education. This bill requires the comparative profile be of all four-year institutions of higher education, including both public and independent institutions.
This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2026-2027 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
