SENATE BUDGET AND APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
ASSEMBLY, No. 5451
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: OCTOBER 5, 2026
The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 5451.
As reported, this bill amends the Fiscal Year 2027 Appropriations Act to revise a language provision concerning the Family and Internal Medicine Residency Expansion Program.
The Fiscal Year 2027 Appropriations Act appropriates $2 million to the Department of Health to support the Family and Internal Medicine Residency Expansion Program. Under the program, these funds are to be made available on a competitive basis for the sole purpose of supporting 10 new residency slots in family medicine and internal medicine training that supplement existing residency training slots, including those supported with non-governmental funds. The bill reduces the number of new family medicine and internal medicine residency slots supported by the appropriation from 10 to five.
As reported by the committee, Assembly Bill No. 5451 is identical to Senate Bill No. 4674, which was also reported by the committee on this date.
