ASSEMBLY APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
ASSEMBLY, No. 5433
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: OCTOBER 22, 2026
The Assembly Appropriations Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 5433.
As reported, this bill consolidates the administration of the “New Jersey Public Employees' Occupational Safety and Health Act” under the Department of Labor and Workforce Development by relocating to that department certain parts of the program which are currently located in the Department of Health.
Under the bill, all powers, functions, and duties of the Department of Health relating to inspection, investigation, and related activities under the “New Jersey Public Employees’ Occupational Safety and Health Act” are transferred to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, along with the proportionate share of the resources necessary to maintain these activities.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Office of Legislative Services (OLS) determines that the bill may potentially result in a small indeterminate increase in State expenditures due to the transfer of certain activities related to the “New Jersey Public Employees’ Occupational Safety and Health Act.”
Once the transfer of administration is complete, spending should remain consistent with existing State resource requirements, all else being equal.
