ASSEMBLY, No. 3242
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: SEPTEMBER 17, 2026
The Assembly Appropriations Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 3242 (1R).
As reported, this bill requires health insurers (health, hospital, and medical service corporations, commercial individual and group health insurers, health maintenance organizations, health benefits plans issued pursuant to the New Jersey Individual Health Coverage and Small Employer Health Benefits Programs, the State Health Benefits Program, and the School Employees’ Health Benefits Program) to provide coverage for expenses incurred in the purchase and use of a continuous glucose monitoring system, as prescribed by a health care practitioner for the treatment of glycogen storage disease.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Office of Legislative Services (OLS) estimates that requiring the State Health Benefits Program and School Employees’ Health Benefits Program to provide health insurance coverage for continuous glucose monitoring systems for the treatment of glycogen storage disease will annually increase State expenditures by approximately $10,800 and participating local government expenditures by $18,800, for a combined total annual expenditure increase of $28,800.
The OLS notes that local government employers, including school districts, which provide employee health insurance coverage through the private market, could also experience an indeterminate increase in costs.
