SENATE HEALTH, HUMAN SERVICES AND SENIOR CITIZENS COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION No. 140

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  DECEMBER 9, 2024

The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee reports favorably Senate Joint Resolution No. 140.

This joint resolution designates the month of March as “Amyloidosis Awareness Month” in the State of New Jersey.  Amyloidosis is a group of diseases in which abnormal proteins, known as amyloid fibrils, build up in tissue, organs, or nerves.  There are approximately 36 different types of amyloidosis, with each resulting in a unique set of signs and symptoms in the patient.  There is no cure for amyloidosis, but an early and precise diagnosis is critical to prevent organ damage.  The goal of this joint resolution is to educate the public about the signs and symptoms of amyloidosis, extend the life expectancy of those who may be unaware that they are suffering from the disease, and help improve the quality of life of those who have been diagnosed with the amyloidosis.
