SENATE COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR

SENATE, No. 2974

      The Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee reports favorably a Senate Committee Substitute for Senate Bill No. 2974.

      As substituted and reported, this bill requires the Commissioner of Community Affairs to adopt regulations that eliminate certain off-street parking requirements, and implement certain reductions in the maximum required on- and off-street parking spaces in the Statewide site improvement standards.

      Specifically, the bill requires:

      (1)  the elimination of off-street parking requirements within one-half mile of any rail passenger service station;

      (2)  a 50 percent reduction in the required parking spaces within one-half mile of certain public transportation services; and

      (3)  a 30 percent reduction in the required parking spaces between one-half mile and one mile of certain public transportation services. 

      The bill would take effect immediately.
