SENATE BUDGET AND APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 6129

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  JANUARY 8, 2026

The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 6129.

As reported, this bill appropriates $615,000 to the Department of Human Services for the purpose of awarding a grant to the NJ 2-1-1 Partnership Operating Aid.

In June 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) authorized the designation of 2-1-1 for human services information and referral programs on a nationwide basis.  The FCC, in establishing the 2-1-1 designation, granted community groups the ability to establish the delivery of information and referral services using this universal access number on a state-by-state basis.

In 2002, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) designated NJ 2-1-1 Partnership as the sole administrator of the 211 dialing code in New Jersey.  Since then, NJ 2-1-1 Partnership has been providing the 2-1-1 service Statewide.

As reported by the committee, Assembly Bill No. 6129 is identical to Senate Bill No. 4732, which was also reported by the committee on this date.
