SENATE LAW AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
ASSEMBLY, No. 4978
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: JUNE 19, 2025
The Senate Law and Public Safety Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 4978.
As reported by the committee, this bill requires each county prosecutor to provide to the Attorney General data pertaining to criminal complaints concerning crimes, or in the case of a juvenile, an act which if committed by an adult would constitute a crime, involving the use of a firearm that did not result in bodily injury. In addition, the bill requires each county prosecutor to report this data to the Attorney General every quarter for three years in a manner prescribed by the Attorney General. At the end of the three years, the Attorney General is to submit a report to the Governor and the Legislature and publish the report on the Internet website of the Department of Law and Public Safety.
As reported by the committee, Assembly Bill No. 4978 is identical to Senate Bill No. 3897, which also was reported by the committee on this date.
