SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 4948

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  DECEMBER 5, 2024

The Senate Transportation Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 4948.

As amended and reported, this bill amends the FY 2025 State appropriations act to provide that the unexpended balance at the end of FY 2024 from the amounts appropriated for the City of Perth Amboy Convery Boulevard Pedestrian Bridge is to be used for pedestrian infrastructure projects in the city.  The appropriation, as enacted on June 30, 2023, specified that the funds were to be used for a pedestrian bridge, but in the time since the FY 2024 appropriations act was enacted, the bridge was deemed unfeasible.  This bill will allow the City of Perth Amboy to expend the appropriated funds for other pedestrian safety infrastructure projects.

As amended and reported by the committee, Assembly Bill No. 4948 is identical to Senate Bill No. 3819, which was also amended and reported by the committee on this date.

COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS:

The committee amended the bill to amend the FY 2025 State appropriations act, rather than the FY 2024 State appropriations act, to specify that the unexpended amounts appropriated for the City of Perth Amboy Convery Boulevard Pedestrian Bridge from the FY 2024 may be expended on additional pedestrian safety infrastructure projects in the City of Perth Amboy, rather than pedestrian safety projects in the city.
