ASSEMBLY PUBLIC SAFETY AND PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE
STATEMENT TO
ASSEMBLY, No. 3892
STATE OF NEW JERSEY
DATED: DECEMBER 16, 2024
The Assembly Public Safety and Preparedness Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 3892.
As reported by the committee, this bill requires a campus police officer to wear a body worn camera while acting in the performance of the officer’s official duties. Under current law, every uniformed State, county, and municipal patrol law enforcement officer is required to wear a body worn camera that electronically records audio and video while acting in the performance of official duties, except in certain circumstances set forth in statute. This bill specifically includes campus police officers as those required to wear body worn cameras on duty.
Additionally, the bill amends the current definition of “law enforcement officer” concerning which officers are required to wear body worn cameras to include campus police officers.
