CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
A Senate Resolution urging the federal Department of Veterans Affairs to increase awareness and education on programs regarding the services available to veterans.
Whereas, Many veterans face challenges separating from military service and returning to civilian life, and generally adjusting to a world that is less structured than what the veteran experienced in the military; and
Whereas, A veteran has to quickly return to dealing with the necessities of a civilian life, and navigating the paperwork and process of obtaining benefits and services, all of which are services; and
Whereas, The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) was established to serve the men and women who are America’s veterans by providing benefits and services at the highest level of compassion, commitment, professionalism, integrity, and accountability; and
Whereas, VA programs provide veterans with disability and health care services, continued education, housing assistance, and employment coaching; and
Whereas, The Veterans Health Administration is the largest integrated health care system in the United States, providing care at 1,298 facilities, including 171 VA Medical Centers and 1,113 outpatient sites, to over 9 million veterans enrolled in the VA health care program; and
Whereas, With over 350,000 veterans in New Jersey, there is an opportunity for the VA to expand its reach in increasing awareness and education on programs regarding the services available to veterans provided by the VA; and
Whereas, New Jersey is grateful for the military service of the many men and women who have served, honorably and with courage, for their nation and this State; and
Whereas, Given the importance of the services provided by the VA, it is fitting and proper for the VA to increase its engagement and outreach with the purpose of bringing more awareness and education to the services they currently offer for veterans; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House respectfully urges the VA to increase awareness and education on programs they currently offer for veterans.
