SENATE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

SENATE, No. 2874

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  SEPTEMBER 29, 2022

The Senate Education Committee favorably reports Senate Bill No. 2874 with committee amendments.

As amended, this bill requires the Commissioner of Education to include information about the placement of students following graduation in the school performance reports, which are referred to as “report cards” under current law.

School performance reports contain information on a number of student outcomes, including graduation and dropout rates, and post-secondary school enrollment.  This bill would require the school performance report to contain additional information about the number of students achieving placement after graduating from high school.  Under the bill, placement would include placement in an apprenticeship.

COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS:

The committee amended the bill to require the Commissioner of Education to collect information on the number of students achieving placement following graduation, for inclusion in the school report card.  As introduced, the bill required the commissioner to collect information on the number of students achieving positive placement.
