SENATE, No. 531

with committee amendments

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

     The Senate Education Committee favorably reports Senate Bill No. 531 with committee amendments.

     As amended, this bill would require all public schools to comply with the previous nutrition standards for the National School Lunch Program and federal School Breakfast Program that were adopted by the United States Department of Agriculture and published in Volume 77, Number 17 of the Federal Register dated January 26, 2012, or any more stringent nutrition standards.

      This bill was pre-filed for introduction in the 2022-2023 session pending technical review.  As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.

COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS:

      The committee amended the bill to update the effective date.  As amended, the provisions of the bill take effect immediately and first apply to the 2024-2025 school year.
