ASSEMBLY EDUCATION COMMITTEE

STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 4727

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  JUNE 8, 2023

The Assembly Education committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 4727.

This bill requires the Commissioner of Education to receive approval from the State Board of Education to administer a new standardized assessment that is not otherwise required by State or federal law, prior to imposing the requirement on public schools.

As used in the bill, “standardized assessment” means an assessment administered to all students in a specific grade level or subject area and whose results are aggregated for analysis at the district, school, or student subgroup level.  Standardized assessment requirements that are in effect prior to the bill’s effective date, but which are updated or revised to use a new version or form of an assessment, are not to be considered a new standardized assessment under the bill.
