SYNOPSIS

     Requires DOT to consider implementing traffic circles on certain county and State roads.

An Act concerning certain road projects and supplementing Title 27 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    a.  The Commissioner of Transportation shall consider and evaluate the feasibility of installing traffic circles for each construction or improvement project of a road under the jurisdiction of the Department of Transportation or under the jurisdiction of a county that involves one or more intersections. 

     b.    The evaluation of the feasibility of installing traffic circles pursuant to subsection a. of this section shall be made by the commissioner, in conjunction with the appropriate highway and road planning authorities, engineers, departments, and administrative offices.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Commissioner of Transportation to consider and evaluate the feasibility of installing traffic circles on county and State roads.  The bill requires that this consideration be made for every county and State road construction or improvement project that involves one or more intersections.  The evaluation of the feasibility of installing traffic circles is required to be made in conjunction with various planning authorities, engineers, departments, and administrative offices.
