STATEMENT TO

ASSEMBLY, No. 119

STATE OF NEW JERSEY

DATED:  SEPTEMBER 22, 2022

The Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee reports favorably Assembly Bill No. 119.

This bill provides that any member of the New Jersey National Guard or of a reserve component of the United States Armed Forces who is placed on a civil service active open competitive employment list, and who is called to active federal military service prior to the expiration of the list, would be deemed to have met that maximum age requirement on the date on which the person’s name is placed on a subsequent eligible list if the person met the maximum age requirement for appointment as a member of the fire department at the announced closing date of the civil service examination from which the first list of eligibles is or was compiled.  This same provision already applies to members and officers of the police department.

This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 2022-2023 session pending technical review.  As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed.
